The Noise Go Marching Three by Three (2/2)

[Max]

Z awoke to a business man stepping over him, briefcase almost hitting his head. He slowly sat up, bringing his hand up to his head. "Ow…" He said quietly, head hurting. He quickly fixed his hair as he stood up, looking over at the sleeping girl from yesterday. Wait… how did they get here in the first place? Weren't they in a crosswalk yesterday, not the business district?

"Hey, are you up yet?" He asked, leaning down to get a better look at her face. It looked as though her eyes where still closed, oh well. 

Z stretched his arms over his head, yawning loudly. He decided he would go ahead and check his phone for messages "None yet… might as well rest until-" He paused, he didn't even know the girls name. e figured that he would ask her once she woke up.

[Midna]

Vex woke pretty suddenly this time. Once she heard the noises and realized that she was still sitting on the sidewalk, she sat up. "I fell asleep? What the hell?!"

Seeing the boy from last time standing over her, she once again scowled. "Why are you always here? That's-" Then she paused as her phone beeped. Looking at the name, she frowned. Another spam message. But... The date on her phone said that a whole day had passed!

"Oh my god, did someone knock me out? This isn't funny. How is it tomorrow? Or, today I guess. But my phone's password protected..." She stopped rambling and frowned at the guy, not scowling any more. "Did you see anything? Who are you, anyway?"

Vex tried to speak slow enough that he might be able to tell what she was saying. Otherwise, she could type it on her phone and show him. How did one talk to suddenly deaf people?

Z could barley make out any words, she talked too fast. He tried his best to guess what she was saying. "Yeah, a whole day, it doesn't make much sense." His phone beeped at the same time as hers, so he took it out and read the message. Suddenly, a great deal of pain forced it's way into the palm of his right hand. He gripped it as he cringed, looking at it. "It…It's a timer?!" He looked up at her in shock.

"What is ever going on. I mean I'm guessing noise are the frog things from yesterday but…chain? What even is that…?" Z ran his non-timered hand through his hair as he thought.

[Midna]

Vex frowned. Apparently he'd missed most of that. She opened her mouth to say something, but her hand erupted into pain again. She swore and looked at it, expecting to see more static. Instead, red numbers glowed on her hand. A timer, for 24 hours. And it was counting down. At least the pain was going away. She rubbed at it, trying to get it off, but it stayed there.

"I have no idea," she said, looking straight at him. "But I don't want to find out what happens when the timer runs out. And you're the only other person who can see these things, I'm pretty sure."

Sighing, she realized she was going to have to do better than that. So she opened up a new email on her phone (noticing that she had absolutely no signal in the process) and typed out about what she'd just said. At the end she added "We're going to have to work together. I'm Vex. What's your name?" And she passed him the phone.

Z was a bit confused as the girl handed him her phone. He took it, giving her a weird look before reading it. He nodded, handing it back "It's nice to meet you Vex. I'm Zachariah, but I go by Z." He smiled

This was going to be difficult during battles if she needed him to attack a certain way or if he needed to look out for something. Hopefully they could work something out. "Now we need to think about this message, or more of a mission technically…" He thought for a moment "Any ideas?"

[Midna]

"Okay, Z." She could remember that. Hopefully. They'd have to figure out a better system for later, but hopefully this would do. Now, for the mission.

"It said chain battles and waves in the text, I think. It was confusing, but... Maybe if we fight three rounds of noise without stopping for a break we can do it?" She hoped that was it. It sounded tough though.

[Max]

Z nodded, understand "We can try it." He reached down into his pocket and pulled out the white skull pin "Do you think this will help in some way?" He gripped it in his palms and all of a sudden he could see symbols.

"Vex I can see a bunch of noise… what should I do?" He looked around and saw about five different kinds around them both. They didn't seem to bother them yet though.

[Midna]

"Uh." She wasn't quite sure how he could see the noise until Vex realized that he was holding the pin. Then she could see them too, noise symbols that hummed with static. Joy, they were all over the place.

"Go run towards one, or through it maybe, and if it chases you, head towards me. I'll see if I can grab those two." There were two smaller Noise symbols pretty close to each other. She could probably get both of them. Hopefully this wouldn't get them both killed. She gripped her pretty violin pin. "Got it, Z?"

[Max]

Z had understood what she said, nodding in response. "You got it." Hopefully he could just run close to it and run back without tripping over anything… that could end badly.

He got ready to run, gripping his pins tighter, if he lost it, it could end badly. "Ready, set…. go!" He shouted, taking off toward the medium sized noise. As soon as it started coming toward him, he took off to get back to Vex. "VEX, VEX I GOT IT HURRY!"

[Midna]

Vex sprinted for the two Noise, yelling "Hey freaks!" at them as she passed. It wasn't clear or not whether the insult angered them or not, but the symbols followed her. Hearing Z's yells, she led them back towards him. "On my way!"

When they were within a few yards of each other, the symbols changed into real noise. They weren't just the frogs this time. Most of them stayed back, but about a third of the noise jumped for the pair. Vex yelled at a pair of noise, hands balled up into fists. They flinched in unison and split up. "Don't you DARE!" She yelled again, and both vanished. Splitting up wouldn't help them much, but she couldn't get distracted.

Z quickly pulled out his other pin, switching it with the white skull pin. He held it out at one of the Kangaroos, gripping it tightly. An ice pillar came up beneath it, injuring it. He dogged a few attacks and continued attacking the larger noise first. "Be careful, the Kangaroos will target you!"

One of the jellyfish shocked him, paralyzing him for a few seconds before he was able to hit it. The jellyfish shattered into pieces before hitting the ground. He continued attacking, dodging when his pin needed to cool down.

[Midna]

Hearing his warning, Vex nodded. They were almost done with this wave, it looked like. She jumped out of the way of one of the kangaroos, rolling to avoid it. If he hadn't warned her, it would have landed right on top of her. Instead, a shockwave sent it flying mid-leap, and it crashed into a car hard, fizzling out of existence.

Huh. Apparently they could use their surroundings. She tried to attack the Noise that were going for Z, but her Pin needed to rest. So she waited not-so-patiently, letting the hot pin cool off a bit.

[Max]

Z continued to battle the noise until all the ones around him had been dealt with. There where only a few more left that had taken the spots that their, now dead, companions had stood. Z ran over to his partner, heavy breathed and tired "We only have these few left, are you ready?" He stood up straight, trying to slow his breathing down.

A few of the noise began coming toward them, but they where frogs and a porcupine, nothing too dangerous.

[Midna]

Vex nodded, breathing hard as well. This was tiring. And those monsters were fast... "We got this," she said, and faced one of the frogs. Then she tried something new. She started off with a low growl that turned into a snarl. A shockwave came out, but it was weaker and only pushed the noise a little. Yells would have to work then.

She hadn't noticed the porcupine coming up behind her until its spines had stabbed her in the leg. Jerking free and feeling the burn where the static must be, she scowled in pain and indignation. That had HURT. It was going to pay, it and the frogs.

She faced all of them and screamed, a loud, high pitched scream that made her throat hurt and lasted so long that she felt a little dizzy afterwards. The shock wave was almost worth it. She leaned against a building, weary, as a couple of the noise fizzed out. The porcupine was the only one of the few she'd been fighting left, and it was clearly as weak as she was. It wobbled towards her with uneven steps. She watched it come. She could have moved, but she didn't feel like it and her pin needed to recharge again.

Z ran up behind the noise that was walking toward his partner. He noised that it was injured, so he held out the pin and aloud it to kill the last remaining noise. He slowly walked to and leaned against the building that his partner was at. The blond breathed heavily as he slumped down, sitting on the ground with a slight 'thump.'

"Well… they're all gone." He sighed, looking down at his right palm. The timer was gone! "Looks like the mission is done, thank god." He looked over and thought he saw a cat, but oh well. They could finally rest.
